SmartMusic Impact is a free web-based course that allows the teacher and student to exchange music assignments via the Internet.
Any student can "enroll" for a class, whether they have a SmartMusic subscription or not, however, they must be using a computer that has an active SmartMusic subscription activated on it.
Follow these directions (video or text), but please note that all “classes” are now listed as Granby Jr/Sr High School only, not East Meadow Elementary School:
Open SmartMusic and get to what is called the “Black Box”
Click on <Assignment>, then <Enroll for Class>, and this window should appear
Fill in the Student’s First Name and Last Name, then click on NEXT
Now, Log In using the Email Address and Password your family setup for you. (Usually this is the same one setup when you purchased SmartMusic, but sometimes students use their own email and password. (If there are multiple children in a house, they each need their own email and password – even if the email is not a real email, ie. “frank@1.com”)
Fill in the Student’s and Guardian information and click NEXT.
Choose Granby Jr Sr High School (even if you go to East Meadow) and click NEXT
Select “Mr. Williams” as your teacher, select one of the “classes” you need to “enroll” for, then select your “instrument” and click NEXT (you can only enroll in one at a time, so there are directions below on how to come back to “enroll” in another “class”)
MMEA-WD Festival Auditions (only for students in grades 7-12 who plan to audition)
If you are auditioning on multiple instruments and voice parts, you need to “enroll” in this “class” for each “instrument”. For example, a student auditioning on OBOE, VIOLIN, and singing TENOR will “enroll” in this “class” three times choosing a different “instrument” each time.
SOE – Book 1 (ANY student who has not completed Standard of Excellence Book 1 in grades 4-9)
SOE – Book 2 (ANY student who is in Standard of Excellence Book 2)
SOE - Book 3 (ANY student who is in Standard of Excellence Book 3)
Lesson Assignments (students taking PRIVATE LESSONS with Mr. W only)
Beginning Band (grade 4 band students – this is where music for band will be sent)
Advanced Band (grades 5-6 band students – this is where music for band will be sent)
Junior High Band (grades 7-8 band students – this is where music for band will be sent)
Senior High Band (grades 9-12 band students)
Pep Band (grades 7-9 students interested in playing for some home basketball games)
Confirm the information on this next screen and click NEXT if correct.
Here is the screen where you can choose to be done OR “enroll” in another class. To “enroll” again, click “I want to enroll for another class” and go back to the directions at #6. If you are done, click CLOSE and proceed to #10 below.
You have “enrolled” in class and Mr. Williams now needs to “confirm” your enrollment on his computer and will then send you assignments when they are ready.
To receive your “assignments” from Mr. Williams, open SmartMusic and go to the “Black Box” and click on the <Assignment> menu at the top of the box, then choose “Assignment” from the drop down menu. (You can also simply click the “assignment” button right on the “black box” itself.
The student will be asked to “Log In”
A window will appear with all your assignments listed. Click on the assignment you want to work on and click OPEN.
If you want to see what Mr. Williams thought of the assignments you already sent in, click on “I want to check my grades”.
For additional directions on how to use SmartMusic and SmartMusic Impact, please watch the help videos available with SmartMusic. Go to the SmartMusic “black box” and click on the <Help> menu, then click on “SmartMusic QuickStart Videos” which will take you to a website with many videos.
Please contact me with any questions you have. I want this software and internet program to work for you, not against you.
